One Week Down
The game title, "Lunacy", has already been proving its signifigance during this build season. Taking into consideration the low friction wheels and surface the game uses this year, it will be interesting to see how many teams ineffectively swerve around the arena.

Team 935 worked this week on brainstorming point-making strategies and ways to make our robot less affected by the low-friction terrain. We also began prototyping certain maniupulators and wheel configurations. The group will continue prototyping and creating ideas for a while longer to find the best design for the robot.

Can anyone believe we're one week down, five to go?

FRC 2009 Kickoff! LUNACY!
Team 935 may not be at the live event, but our team eagerly awaits the live Internet feed for the Game Kickoff! For those who weren’t able to watch the video, we’ll be reporting a digest of Team 935's experience of this year's FRC Kickoff throughout the day!

8:35 a.m. : Our blogger, Ashley, settles down with pen, pad, and coffee in hand. All of the members and mentors get ready for the long day ahead of us!

10:05 : This year, it seems as though the game may have something to do with the Apollo Moon Mission. After all, it can’t be too much coincidence that we’ve already brought up the fact that this year is the 40th Anniversary!

Up to 11:30 : We have respectfully (but somewhat anxiously) listened as many speakers and teams fondly remind us what FIRST is about. We were also reminded about how hard it will be with the new control system (oh dear)! It is at this time that we would like to remind our mentors and parents of something very important. Every student here today appreciates your involvement with RaileRobotics. Without you, our team and students may never have been able to reach so far. Thank you so much!

11:30 : Here we are on the playing field. The first think to be noticed is that we aren’t on carpet, anymore! The floor is slick and white and oh no! Suddenly I understand all of the “frictionless” jokes sent our way by Dean Kamen throughout his speech! It seems as though, yes, the game is moon-themed. We have moon rocks, regolith, friction issues, launch pads, fueling stations, and so on. The best pun, however, seems to be the game's name. "Lunacy".

11:40 : The ceremony closes, so Michael and I run to download the Manual from the official FIRST website. Unfortunately, it seems that everyone else had the same exact thought. My computer loads first (about thirty minutes later) and although we’ve already begun strategizing as a group, the game manual is a nice addition. Really.

The Game Manual can currently be found here- http://www.usfirst.org/community/frc/content.aspx?id=452
At the moment, it is encrypted and each piece must be unlocked with the password “1GiantLeap4FRC”. Tomorrow, an unencrypted version will be available from our own server.

4:00 : We spent the remainder of the day strategizing. Even after all of our thought, every member was sent home to google “friction” and brush up on our Physics. We will re-adjourn tomorrow at one o’clock on Sunday.

GOOD LUCK, TEAMS!
